That had to be a pretty weak s/c 5.0 setup. I know the z06 is lighter and has solid power, but a 2.9l whipple with a modest tune will walk it all day long.

That tune is made for premium fuel, more than likely. If you run less than that, it is bound to pull timing often.

Well, these conditions, the drive-train would have little effect. That said, I don't know what he was making for power, but he was very quick. I pulled ever so slightly, so he was probably in the ballpark of 300.
