I only recently noticed that my mustang grill is nearly 50% blocked. And it gets hot here in texas. It's not uncommon for me to see IAT at 125+, when leaving a parking lot, or stuck in traffic. And my suspicions were confirmed with this article:

I assume the partially blocked grill would be an advantage on a cold day. But for those in warmer climates, is there any advantage to the stock grill ?

Opening up the stock grille, doing a grille swap, or simply 'deleting' it are all common mods.

I cant say for certain how much heat it will drop, but it certainly cannot hurt.

The partial blockage of the stock grill is for aero reasons. Better air flow as it forces air upwards at speed. More technical then I know how to explain though at this point but it does have a reason and it does do whats its supposed to do...increase MPG.

That being said I am doing a custom grill... who buys a GT for MPG?

Some people have said doing so causes more air to enter the engine bay and can cause more hood flutter. A set of hood struts will (mostly) fix that though.

I do like having a grille to block at least some of the debris. A well-placed rock can take out a condenser. I hit a small bird a few months ago at 55 mph and very little made it through. Did have to clean my grille a bit.

I DID open up holes in front of the air intake, to get approx. twice the sq. inches open from stock.

This is what I'm considering doing. Did you dremel some of the blocked honeycombs out or did you actually remove a section completely?

also thinking about removing some blockage in that area. IAT hit 160 today, it's only 80* out.

"PMAS cold air intake..."

Open element intakes will ALWAYS suffer from heat soak issues and higher IATs compared to a sealed box.

No I know that, and it goes down fairly quickly but it NEVER gets within 20* of ambient, even at higher speeds. Either my MAF position is wrong, or I need to cut out the honeycomb.

I have a modified Steeda box(modified from the former owner of the CAI) and it drops to ambient super fast and my grill is 100% stock.

I'll pm you the link of what he did if I can find it..seems to work well.
