Hey guys so just went to the track this past week, I only have access to an 1/8 mile track here in socal at the moment. Closest to my house. But anyway I ran a 8.275 @89.63 mph with a 2.060 60ft.
I'm a stick car with 3.31 gears. Mods are BBk longtubes, Ford x pipe, and a roush axle back. And a Lund FF tune.
Runs were made on street tires 305-30-20 nitto nt555 g2 which don't hook the best off the line. And they are a tall ass tire. Slipping the clutch at about 3.2k is best for these. And to prevent wheel hop, I will be ordering 28x11.5x17 Mickey thompson et street r bias tomorrow. My only concern would be height with the gearing. And also what would be the best way to launch with bias ply? Dump the clutch? I'm on stock suspension and axles. Thanks for the input.

It was years ago (2003) but the last time I ran an 8.2 1/8 I ran a 12.7 1/4. I was in a 99 gt with plenty of mods and nittos. Looking back I feel like my 60foot was slow but oh well. I eventually put a small shot of nos and got down to 12.2 before I sold that car.

I wanted to add a little more but had to wait till I got home. So I have yet to run my new 15 so I'm not sure what it will be like. I do know that the wheel hop was bothering me a lot just on the street so I install the Steeda Stop the hop kit. It made a big difference but like I said, I have yet to launch at the track. The only down side was the cost (including the cost to install and align). Not cheap...

I don't have any exp with MT's but i would like to know if they make a difference on the wheel hop. I had 3.55s in my 99 GT and I loved them. I think 3.31's are a bit tall unless you have a SC or Turbo but if I had to guess, wouldn't a taller gear help prevent wheel hop?

Rt: 0.776
60 ft: 2.057
1/8 mile: 8.246
1/8 mile mph: 88.658
1/4 mile time: 12.704

Your mph looks a little slow for the mods BUT it could all be in the DA and elevation of the track. I have JLT, Lund tune and a cobbled together cat back and run 91-92 mph in the 1/8. Regardless, try this the next time out:

Launch around 2500-3K slipping the clutch out as if you were trying to leave from a stoplight quickly on the street.

Shift the 1-2 shift anywhere from 6K rpm to 6800 rpm trying to find where it spins/hops the least.

If you are currently grabbing 4th before the traps, stop doing that, ride it out in 3rd.

Thats where Im at currently and what works for me. Im a 3.73 car and can run thru the lights at the end in 3rd (barely) and that picked me up .2 easily and some MPH. Keep at it and have fun...oh and those ET Street R's should help a TON. Im wanting a set as well for mine.

Thanks for the input boss, I also found that strange, I usually hit about 91 92 mph. This was my best time but slowest mph that night.

That happens!!! If you get the tires, then keep going as you are BUT if you go again on street tires try shifting 1-2 earlier and see if you dont drop quite a bit of time off that slip. If I get ahead of myself and shift 1-2 at 7k+ it spins like crazy and I lose valuable time.

The DA is kicking your ass at that elevation, not knowing the temps on that run and other variables too.

At 1400ft my best is a 8.31 at 88.xx with a 1.9 60ft. This was in 80* temps. 20x9 and 20x10.5 Verde Axis wheels with 285 UHPs out back. 3k clutch ride out and shifting around 6800-7k.

My mods are Lund 93 Oct tune, Steeda Intake and Corsa Xtreme CB. Also have some Steeda IRS braces and G Trac brace. I have the rest of the stop the hop kit sitting in the house to install.

At another local track at a slightly lower elevation, I saw 90.5mph traps in 60* temps.

Hoosier 28x10 17 D60's are arriving this week.

With that much rubber, you better baby those axles man. I will be in the same boat. Fine line between best ET's and saving parts.

Were you the white GT? I was the Grey ecoboost. But yea we MPH the same and my best that night was a 7.5 @ 89mph on 275/40r17 drag radials. I'm an auto so a bit easier for me. Once you get those slicks you'll be fine. My best 60ft on all season 20" tires 285/35 was like a 1.9 so that 2.0 isn't bad at all, especially at Irwindale

With your mods and DA I would expect trap speeds in the 91-92 mph range regardless of traction and ET's in the 7.90's on a proper drag tire. Coyotes love longtubes and a good tune, so I'm surprised your car didn't run a little quicker. Get to a track that's closer to sea level DA and you'd likely run 7.70's @ 93-94 mph on a proper drag tire.
