After all these years, I buy my dream car, a 2017 GT/PP/MG...and then mess up my back! The clutch pressure is killing my lower back. Even the doc says it' not good. What do I do?

1. Sell the car and buy an auto-trans?

2. Change out a perfectly good manual trans for an auto?

3. Sell it and buy a Honda Civic and "cry" every day to work. :frusty:

So frustrating...my car barely has 900 miles, kept in the garage and NEVER redlined! I've been babying it because I wanted to keep it for years.

Now what?

(Never thought my first post would be this.)

Go back to your dealer salesperson, and explain your medical problem. Ask them if they would make a trade for a 2017, Auto, in stock. The deals are out there, as it is end of year and the '18s are going to be moving in. Give it a shot, nothing to lose.

What is the time frame we are talking about here for your recovery? Weeks, months, permanent?

I would find out the cost difference between option 1 and 2. But #1 will definitely be easier (and probably cheaper). But if you have your exact dream car you may want to swap the trans if you can't find exactly what your looking for in a used auto.

Doc says I can recover, but pushing a clutch will only aggravate and bring it back.

So, looks like a manual is out for me. :brokenheart:

I don't supposed there's a mod for making the clutch easy as the brake?

How about buying a cheap automatic beater until you recover then sell it?

This is what I'm thinking too.

Like an explorer or something higher up, these cars aren't difficult to get into and out of compared to some, but I could definitely see it being a bitch on your back.

I appreciate the direction, but the doc says I have to stay away from a clutch...permanently!

Ugh, I hate this. I love changing gears manually. They just don't like me.

You can see if a Steeda clutch spring or perhaps another type of clutch spring makes it easier on you to push the clutch in.

After that look into a auto trans swap. The swap may be your cheapest route, plus you can keep your car the way you optioned it.

There is a clutch assist spring in there which already lightens the clutch effort.

If you found a stiffer spring with the right dimensions, it should work.

Edit: The steeda spring is lighter, you don't want that one it will increase the pedal effort.

Just saw your doc say u need to stay away from manual permanently.

I mean, if that's the case, go talk to your dealer. In person. Bring your prescriptions.
I got an auto, wish i had a manual
