I posted this in the general forum, but it makes more sense here.

I have the 12 speaker shaker with the sub.
Decided the sub needed some help without getting crazy. Did a similar mod on my ST.
So,

Easy install, 3 torx screws at the bottom removes the faceplate, 3 more bolts and the sub is free.
Unplug harness, remove sub.
Remove the grill and unscrew the speaker.
There is one screw in the back holding the magnet. Remove that and the sub falls out.
It's a dual voice coil, so 4 wires.
Plug that hole on that back. I used that foamy 3m tape on both sides.
Purchase:
Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD2-8
And RF P3S 8" grill
Amazon has both for around $110.

Drop that baby in, button it up and enjoy.

I had a request about the center speaker, so I figured I'd throw in the pic.
Its a Polk DB351, mounted from below the panel for tweeter clearance

Also a tweeter request, Kicker KTS25, removed the pillar, dremeled the stock mount and installed from the front. be SURE to use the supplied crossovers.

very nice! did you replace only the tweeters on the pillars? or did you change out the speakers completely?

Complete swap. The tweeters really make a difference.

So you just wired up the sub to the existing harness? Can I get some more details on what you did here? Did you have to cut any wires?

exactly, used the existing amp and wiring.
The factory speaker has female spade connectors that just pull off.
the RF has spring loaded lugs, so the only cutting was clipping off the spade connectors and stripping back 1/2" of wire, then right into the lug.

the original holes to mount the factory sub don't line up, so you will have to drill 4 pilot holes for the grill.

Awesome. What are your thoughts on the sound improvement? I may tackle this one just for giggles if the sound improvement is worth the money.

this sub is "louder" than the factory unit, if that makes sense.
Also gives much more of a punch to the bottom.

I find that I can play some hard hitting EDM louder with this at a much better sound quality level.
Its not like a night and day improvement, but is very noticeable. Very much worth the minimal cost..

combined with the front tweeters and center, the soundstage is MUCH better.

Oops, I misunderstood your previous post. My door speakers were left intact and I just replaced the pillar tweeter.
All stock wiring and all stock power.

Honestly, the system is not bad with a few tweaks.

What's your impressions of the Kicker components? Did you upgrade the mid range in the door also, if so what component set did you go with that has the (3) speakers (tweets, mid and full range)?

Did you purchase the Polk audio center speaker as a set or were you able to source it online separately?

EDIT:
Disregard first question about compnents, I didn't see your most recent response that you only upgraded the tweets.

I'm about to do this install this weekend. I haven't seen the wiring setup behind the factory sub yet. I'd appreciate any additional info you could share? How many wires, what colors can I expect to see, which is positive/negative?

Thanks!
