Just came here to do the math for those who might be looking to sell their old Gen2 set-up.
Potential Whipple candidate right here.
I can buy a brand new Whipple Stg 2 from Lethal at 15% off, $6965
For those of you looking to sell your old compressor consider this:
The "rest of system" is $4495 - 15% = $3820
So, what exactly is a second-hand compressor worth?
People are saying $2500 but seriously, if you think I'm paying $6365 ($3820 + $2500)
for a second-hand Whipple, you're off your head. I'm only saving $600. For an extra $900 I'd have a BNIB, latest generation set-up.
Your old second-hand compressor is used AND superseded.
At $2000 you might have a deal. Maybe.
As always, the market will dictate the price no doubt.
Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Would it be cheaper for most the upgrade candidates to just buy a new Gen3 kit COMLETE, swap the compressor and sell that way? Knock $1000 off the price, works out cheaper for both parties

Everyone wants a good deal, thats obvious but something is worth what its worth. A used blower is is definitely worth more than $1,500 no matter how you slice it. So far it seems black blowers are getting $2,000 or more and color is getting $2,500 or more. There are options out there for just about everyone, pick your poison.

For those of you that are selling your Blower and purchasing the Gen3 unit, make sure you keep your Pulley. The Gen3 won't have a pulley. You will reuse yours, and the customer who purchased the parts package will include a new pulley.

As I said, the market will dictate.
If you can find someone who's willing to pay 90% of new price for a second hand unit, good luck to you. ($6965 vs $6365)

It's all about change-over cost.

For a perspective "upgrader" the situation looks like this:

A) purchase new gen3 unit at circa $3900 and hope to sell old unit at $2000
Changeover cost $1900. You've got to find someone willing to pay $6365 for your old stuff when they can spend $600 more for BNIB. Put simply, the only person who's going to pay more than $2k for your old unit is someone who has destroyed theirs. I don't see many posts "help, I killed my Whipple" so we will assume that market is pretty limited.

B) purchase ENTIRE gen3 kit on sale ($7265ish), swap the compressor over, place old compressor back in the box, sell for $6,000
Changeover cost of $1265, easy sale. In fact, I'll take one.

Alright it’s a deal. When that time comes send me the money and I’ll swap out my 6k mile old unit for the gen 3 entire kit. I would happily do that.

New G3 is $3,900 ($200 more than new G2) so....
New G2 is valued at $3,700, no?
Any colored version $600 more

Used black selling roughly $2,000 ($1,700 saving)
Used color selling roughly $2500 ($1,800 savings)

Pretty good if you ask me.

There is also a third potential buyer. One who went black and wished had got a color. Buy used color for $2,500, sell black for $2,000 for net cost $500

I looked into getting my black one powder coated and it was not cost effective would have had to send to Whipple to be disassembled, powder coated, re assembled and shipping both ways. Thousands

At 2500.00 for a painted unit that puts you at .60 cents on the dollar which is more than fair, any less I would let it sit on the shelf and collect dust than give it away.

Off-topic, kind of, but I would have liked to see Procharger offer a similar upgrade program with their newly released X-Series P1X/D1X/F1X headunits.

Offer a full parts kit (minus headunit), either HO kit or Stage 2 spec, so that people with existing P1SC/D1SC set ups could sell their current outdated headunit and offset the cost of upgrading to the new model. Therefore also allowing someone else to get a complete kit with a used previous gen headunit at a much discounted price.

I like the strategy Whipple has put in place to allow opportunity for current Whipple owners to upgrade.

Also it makes no sense to buy a compete G3 kit to then sell the take off blower and the rest of the kit because of how much the shipping will be. If you have not seen these boxes, they are huge and extremely heavy. It will cost hundreds to ship. Makes more sense for a person to get free shipping or at the least, much cheaper shipping because venders have a way lower cost to ship and pick up just the blower from someone and work the shipping out with the seller.

I’m gonna guess most guys buying a used blower are looking for a deal...$600 difference between used and NIB is not enough to risk it for me. And I don’t care what color it is, not paying extra for it. That said, i would put a pink whipple under my hood for the right price.

The ads I’ve seen so far have been pretty active though... I’m guessing not many mathematicians

If there was no 15 % discount on brand new then used would be a very good option, but as you said the amount of money saved for used isn't worth it.
