10/22/17: Went to a local benefit car show today and picked up some hardware for best race entry.

My car is FAR from a show car and I guess not scrubbing off all those rubber marks off the side of the car might've helped me out...

My fellow board members ( 96MUSTANG06 & MANDARK ) and I have organized what will be a great benefit car show to provide relief for victims of the North Bay fires.

We will be accepting cash donations and 100% of your donation will go to those affected. And were planning on giving big! Also, as a way to give back to our fellow attendees,
we'll be giving out an award to the best of show. We hope that you'll join us!

01/06/18: Today I completed a little project that consists of new HCM Carbon Hood Vents, some hood modification and a new K&N drycharger for rain and car washes.
I was inspired by my friend db252 but went a slightly different route than him for reasons listed below. The end result turned out great and I can't wait to start my other track oriented projects.

Here's a complete "How-To".

Disclaimer: DO NOT do this if your not comfortable with tools, cutting sheet-metal or don't have the right tools or patience.

Here are the tools I used: Drill, 2 holesaw sizes (1.5" and .75") 2 Drill Grinding Wheels (1.5" and .75") 3" and 4" cutting wheel
Isopropyl Alcohol, Detailing cloth, .25" 3M VHB Tape, 3M Adhesion Promoter, Scissors, Tape Measure, Screwdriver and Trim Tools
39519368542_7b8e8e98c0_c.jpg

REMOVAL: Tutorials for both these steps can be found on Youtube

1A. Remove the heat shield under the hood. Some trim tools made easy work of this.

1B. Remove the pre-existing hood vents.

HOOD BLINKERS:

2. My '16 has the hood blinkers. Disconnect those. I placed them in a small plastic bag.
27772793569_63cdaca373_c.jpg

3. Seal it with duct tape.
27772792909_ef94df5ed6_c.jpg

4. Zip tie bag assembly to wire loom and duct tape loose wires to loom.
27772791759_a3420468fd_c.jpg

ADDRESSING THE HOOD: This was done to increase efficiency of the vents and to reduce hood flutter at speed.

5. Mark your cut lines.
38652911465_2587665664_c.jpg

6. Drill your guide holes.
38652909885_fc0839f02a_c.jpg

7. Using a hole saw drill your radii holes. This step is huge in keeping a clean look.
38652908545_f40d8a4073_c.jpg

8. Make your cuts. This requires patience. You can use a Sawzall but I opted for a drill cutting wheel. Slower but more consistent linework.
Note that I didn't go full bore and cut out the whole enchilada including the mounting brackets. This was done just in case I wanted to
re-install the stock hood vents with blinkers or if a future owner wanted to do that.
39519603462_798533116e_c.jpg

ADDRESSING THE VENTS: I have found that I've been going to more car shows than I thought I would go to. I wanted a really nice look
so I prepped the underside of the vents and painted them black to hide the effects of the "B-side" of molded parts.

9. Paint bottom of vents. Then sand the edges to ensure proper adhesion and also get rid of the lip found on molded parts.
38840038654_c4ccb6720e_c.jpg

10. Apply the 3M Adhesion promoter. Wait to dry. Apply 3M VHB Tape.
27772789969_f77c327c3f_c.jpg

11. Apply parts to hood using firm touch around tape locations.
38840037664_8644d1eb4b_c.jpg

27772788279_50a4403129_c.jpg

AIR FILTER DRYCHARGER. Since it does rain and I do wash the car this is cheap insurance.

12. Remove filter. Install dry-charger. Re-install filter.
39549034121_c7c502dee7_c.jpg

13. Wash car.
24681569077_6e84d03465_c.jpg

14. Test Drive. During my test drive I did some high speed blasts and found reduced Hood Flutter.

15. Have a beer and admire your work.

Todd, really nice work and attention to detail. Those are a great addition to your other carbon fiber projects. As you have already noticed, the additional opening that you added will have a much better affect of removing air, heat and lift. Great planning of the air filter cover since yours is open along with the hole saws for clean radius cuts. The nice thing about your mod and the Roush mod is that it lets you go back to stock; not so much me anymore .

Let’s see an under hood vent pic.

Can’t believe we haven’t seen each other at a track event in so long. Let’s not let that happen this year.

Came out great Todd. Looks like a better fit than I’ve seen with some of the Roush example. How do you like your wheels in the 20”?

Hey bud, Thanks for the feedback! I really like how you did yours and the product that you used too.

I'll snap an underhood shot in the AM and Post it up. It looks pretty clean.

We'll definitely see each other shortly. I'm really interested in seeing your mods and taking a ride along in your beast.
In general, I got a lot of questions on how you did some stuff on your ride.

First round of beers are on me:cheers:

Here you go bud, I totally forgot you asked. The engine bay is still a little dirty. I'm hoping to find some time to detail it soon. I'll post some better pix when I do.
