Took pics awhile ago, so here's my install of HeartThrobs H-pipe,
done in my garage on the floor. I backed onto car ramps.
~ Disclaimer
- I backed onto a set of car ramps. Set the parking brake,
shifted into reverse, blocked the front wheels with wedge
shape wood about 6" in height. IF you are not comfortable
in doing this part, get it installed a a reputable shop.
~ Tools used
- 13mm & 15mm sockets on a 3/8 drive ratchet
- 6" 3/8 extension
- sawzall with a 6 inch blade, 14 tooth per inch
- Jackstand
- light source
~ Time required
- 2 hours
The stock resonator. Weighs at least double what the h-pipe does.
Cut was made 6 inches back of the weld on the res. Repeat with the
other side.
I used a Milwaukee sawzall with a 6 inch blade, 14 tooth
per inch for a nice clean cut.
Clamps holding the resonator loosen off easily, res slips right off.
At this point I'd suggest taking the mufflers off as well. Makes
for a way simpler install. Two brackets per muffler. Take out the
one 13mm bolt on the front hanger, two 13mm bolts on the rear
hanger, and drop down as a unit. Repeat for other side. PS: theres
weight(s) that are attached to that rectangular bracket, but don't
worry, they slide off with the res.
Now test fit the H-pipe, should slide in easily (mine did). Also they
bottom out early, what you see here is fully seated.
Heres the installed H-pipe. Place the mufflers & pipe into the H=pipe.
Hold the muffler assemble up and support it with a jackstand for an
easier install. After the muffler hangers are on, cap screws done up
up but not fully tightened, position the exhaust tip to look even in the
valance opening. Then tighten down the hanger cap screws. Repeat for
other side. Note, the supplied clamps seen here isn't the final position.
I rotated them 90 degrees for ground clearance (forgot to take a pic).
Now tighten everything to spec starting at the mufflers working forward.
Now enjoy that muscle car sound!
