Just a thread to get an idea of which engine oil you guys are running. Weight doesn't matter -- I'm only interested in brands.

I'm also assuming everyone is running full synthetic.

Please post why you like using X oil, and if you have any lab results, please post them here!

Hoping this thread helps other members down the line.

AMSOIL SS and AMSOIL EO filter because I think it's the best money can buy. Changed factory fill @ 1,058 miles and will do another change @ 5K with oil analysis and TBN.

Amsoil oil and filters in the S550 and the Explorer, and Motorcraft Syn Blend oil and FL820S filter in the Mercury Milan.

I broke my S550 engine in with Castrol Dino 10w40

Current fill is Mobil 0w-40

Filling with the Amsoil AZF 0w-40 this weekend.

I plan to do a UOA of the current Mobil fill, and then on the Amsoil in 6 months or so.

I am a firm believer, and do not think you can go wrong with the below in high performance apps:

Amsoil
Mobil 1
Pennz Ultra/Platinum

For primarily commuting - I have put 300K+ on cars using Motorcraft Syn Blends and matching filters.

We all know Motorcraft is not blending its own product. Does anyone have any idea who is bottling it for them?

Wow -- Only 18 votes and I am surprised at the results thus far! I thought we would have a close battle between Amsoil and Royal Purple (RP), but it looks like RP has fell by the wayside.

MC oils are made from S-Oil Super S base stock; very high quality group III+ base stock refined in South Korea from high quality Saudi crude half a world away. S-Oil exports this base stock to countries all around the world.

Conoco/Phillips makes the finished MC oils, and Conoco/Phillips is also the exclusive distributor of S-Oil Super S in the U.S. I'm not sure what additive supplier Conoco/Phillips uses. The add pack is probably made by either Lubrizol or Infineum (owned by Exxon/Mobil and a leader in the field of motor oil additive technology). Today, add packs are as important as the base stock in the overall performance of the oil.

So, you're right that MC (Conoco/Phillips) is a blender/packager of outsourced base stock and add packs. So is Royal Purple, Amsoil, and Joe Gibbs Driven oils.

Wouldn't it be kick in the head if Amsoil (the greatly superior oil to all the others, according to some on this forum) used the same S-Oil base stock and add packs as MC.

Depends how much you want to spend. Good full synthetic can run you $60. The OEM Motorccraft blend $25.

I dont think there is a wrong answer on your list though.

And I agree with the above post, it's just like the battery debate. People used to say oh Energizer and Duracell are the best, biggest name brands. But didn't realize many of the store brands like Radioshack or your local store/costco brands were made by the same few big companies; and just as good. There's only so many companies that produce petroleum products.

There's no "wrong" shelf brand to pick. I would just use at least blend if not synthetic and skip conventional.

I plan to use Quaker State full synthetic. I used it in my 2014 F150 with the 5.0 and granted it didnt rev as high it still saw towing and some serious work. I did blackstone report at 5000 mile changes and they said i could go to 7000. But i stuck with 5000. I plan to change to this oil at 1500 miles and then will run the QS for 3000 and do a test just to ensure its good.

Bump to keep the thread alive!

Everyone please vote and add your opinions!

As a side note, I just changed my oil to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 with a Motorcraft filter and it seems like the engine is running quieter. I plan on sending an oil sample to Blackstone Labs in about a year when it is time for some new oil.

Hopefully I can find the Ultra Platinum as well. My local Walmart did not have any in stock.
