I guess what I'll do is pop the panels, tap the leads at the speakers and then try to figure out out to get the tapped wires back into the trunk.

Hopefully it will be fairly obvious once I get into it. :)

I grabbed the rear speaker wires from under the back seat, was easier than grabbing at the speaker.

Got most of what I need now. Looks like I have a project this weekend...

This is a 10" DVC Lanzar wired in series. That will give me an 8 ohm load, but the amp is stable to about 900 watts RMS, bridged, at 8 ohms, so I think it will have plenty of punch.

I'm not sure why I ordered 2 line converters, but they are cheap and I may have a future use for one... lol

I got the enclosure from a guy who builds custom boxes and eBays them.

Just got this finished... may need to tune it a bit, but it sounds awesome. I'll add some pics and a story a bit later... getting ready for a short cruise right now. :)

Everything is working well... though I'm still playing with tuning the amp right. I have noticed one odd thing; at certain RPM (and especially decelerating through those revs, right around 2800) I get a hum from the subwoofer. The hum is more pronounced if there is no stereo signal. At first I thought it was an artifact of running the amp switch off the accessory power fuse, but I can pick it out when the stereo is on also, though it is more subdued (or just drowned out?) then.

Is my install making the active noise suppression psychotic?

Where did you pull signal for the sub? Do you have the premium audio or the base model? It's my understanding that the ecoboost generates engine noises through the stereo so depending on your model and where you pulled the signal, that noise is going to the inputs on the sub. That's why you here it when the radio is off.

Oh ya, if you pulled a speaker level input you are for sure hearing the noise that the factory system generates for "driver experience". I believe there is a programmer you can buy to turn that off.

Since you have a 'vert, you might have a hard time getting to the ANC mic. I believe it's next to the map lights in the overhead console, but you can also disable it using FORScan if you have an OBD2 tool. It's definitely ANC messing with your sub signal.

OK ... annoying hum officially nerfed. Sounds fine.
Kind of nerfed my Serious XM connection in the process... figure I just need to call them and get a reset.

With the rumble-hum sorted out (turned off the "feature" using FORscan) I was able to tune the subwoofer properly. I'll still want to upgrade the speakers at some point, but the difference is phenomenal!

Custom enclosure - $130.00
10" DVC Lanzar sub - $45.00 (seriously -- these things are a total bargain!)
200 w (about 800, bridged, rms) Lanzar amp - $70.00
Wires & bits - $45.00
ELM/CAM adapter - $22.00

I highly recommend "Parts Express" for stereo components. Good deals, fast shipping and everything I have gotten from them performs. They have tons of higher end stuff if your ears are better than mine and you're real picky about such things too. :)

A couple hours labor and boom! 100% improvement in sound quality.

Who turned off the "feature" using the FORscan tool?

Climb into the trunk, look up at the rear speakers.
You can see the leads inside the speaker frame.
I used posi taps to grab those leads and connected RCA's.
Simple and easy, no need to disconnect or disassemble anything.
