Hi. We have a dragstrip in Arizona (Wild Horse Pass) that require a 6 point roll bars if you run 11.49 or quicker with an aftermarket supercharger so does all of the tracks have the same rules?

Welcome to the suck. That rule is barely enforced here except for me...for some reason they always check my car and make sure the harness is good.

Then there's a guy in a coyote running 138mph and they don't even bother.

All NHRA tracks should follow the NHRA rules but it is very subjective. We don't even have a "real" tech here. Just a guy with a paint marker.

Depends on the track. My buddy's dragster goes 9.40's last year and it was never teched short of signing the card. This year, it's chassis was cert'd and they went over the car with a fine tooth comb for all the SFI numbers.

I've seen cars go 135+ w/o cages and no one's been kicked out...I've also seen cars go 9.9x and get kicked out w/o a cage. It really just depends on the track.

I can't imagine they'd press it too hard, but again, every track is different.

I'm not sure I'm ready or willing to put a cage in my car and hope that day never comes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't the rules changed for 2008 and newer cars? I was under the impression you didn't need a roll bar in a newer car til you broke the 9.9 second barrier. Here is a quote take right from the NHRA rule book about the subject below.

Additionally, requirements and specifications for Street Legal are
the same as those for the Summit Racing Series with the following
exception. Unaltered 2008 OEM model-year and newer production
cars running slower than 9.99 and 135 mph do not have to meet
the requirements and specifications for the Summit Racing Series
except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet Summit
Racing Series roll-bar and roll-cage requirements.
Note: Tires used
may be other than OEM, but they must be DOT-approved. Other
changes/modifications to items such as but not limited to intake air
systems, exhaust systems, computer programming from the
factory OEM equipment are considered “alterations.” As such,
2008 and newer vehicles with changes/modifications must meet
the Summit Racing Series rules.
All drivers must meet the Summit

Racing Series helmet and protective-clothing requirements.

I had heard something about this and discussed it with a friend. Put DR's on a Z06 or a GTR will easily go 10's. Most don't have cages.

Yea it's still not hard to get bounced. Last Friday I watched a whippled S550 run 9.7s and a newer GTR also got bounced for a 9.6@165. Both guys just travel a circuit of the tri-state tracks. They hit every track about once every three months so the track officials have time to forget their cars. They'll be back in a few months and get bounced again. It's their way of skirting the rules.

Roll bar rules suck, but they are there for a reason, to keep you alive.

You can swap for DOT tires, but anything else subjects you to the roll bar rules. Tune, exhaust, etc..

My track allows a lot of wiggle room. A supercharger is offered on roush cars right off the show room floor. Dealers also offer the ford racing supercharger with a warrenty. I recommend trying another track.

I'll have to check this weekend but I think you don't need the roll bar. Just a helmet and jacket.

There is a track in tucson and its 2 hours away, I am thinking to go there this weekend and see if they let me run there without a cage.
