The new Shelby GT350R Mustang from Ford Performance is the first vehicle from a major auto manufacturer to come standard with carbon fiber wheels. Ford has just released details about this unprecedented feat of technology and performance value for Mustang enthusiasts.
Using a process of ceramic plasma arc spray on the front wheels, the same used on the original Space Shuttle to help provide thermal protection from brake heat, the GT350R wheels help make it the most track capable and innovative Mustang ever produced. Of course, it is not just what they added but what they removed, that matters.
Ford managed to cut the weight of each wheel by an incredible 45%, from the 33 pounds of the equivalent aluminum wheel to just 18 pounds for the Carbon Revolution-supplied carbon fiber wheels.
