2016 Mustang: New Packages, Options & Features

2016 Mustang details have just been officially released by Ford and the new model year gets a series of new packages, options and new features.  Here is how it breaks down:

First, as reported last week, turn signal indicators located in hood vents – a heritage cue from the 1967 Ford Mustang – return as standard equipment for 2016 Ford Mustang GT.

Three new packages arrive for the 2016 model year:  The California Special package which will be exclusive to the Mustang GT Premium (available this Fall), the Black Accent Package exclusive to the Mustang GT (available this Fall) and the Pony Package which will be available to the Mustang EcoBoost Premium model (available at the end of the year).

Finally, drop top fans will be able to order their 2016 Mustang GT convertibles with the Performance Package so long as you choose the 6-speed manual transmission; buyers who choose the automatic transmission option are still not able to equip it with the Performance Package regardless of body style — making that combination remain exclusive to the 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang.

As has been widely expected, the 2016 Mustang now offers the option for a painted black roof akin to the one found in the latest Boss 302 Mustang as well as over-the-top racing stripes in black or silver (available on most color and trim packages).  Also as expected, Premium Package Mustangs will come with Ford’s new SYNC 3 entertainment system.
