Mustang Variant Spied Benchmarking Camaro ZL1

You can call it bad luck or good fortune, depending on which side of the vehicle you were occupying, when Ford Performance engineers were out testing a high performance Mustang variant and accidentally crashed a party of the worst kind when you are trying to avoid prying eyes.

The high performance Mustang prototype which was wearing Shelby GT350R clothes, inadvertently stumbled upon a convoy of auto journalists who happened to be testing the new Mercedes-AMG GT C for MotorTrend in the same location around Prescott, Arizona.

Apparently, it piqued so much interest that the team of journalists chased down the Mustang (which appears to be a variation of another test vehicle spotted just days ago in Arizona), and found it wearing similar camouflage, with the addition of a large rear wing and black and white camouflage on the rear valence.

The most interesting thing about the prototype wasn’t the vehicle itself but what it was following — a Camaro ZL1 which Ford was apparently using for benchmarking purposes. This gives us an idea of what to expect from the next powerhouse Mustang from Ford Performance, and we’re now hearing it could eschew the GT500 moniker and dip into its bag of Mustang badges for something “more unique.”

Cobra? Boss 429? It may be sooner than we think before the world finds out.
