Ford Mustang GT4, the GT350R-C Based Global Race Car Revealed at SEMA 2016

Ford just revealed the all-new Mustang GT4 turnkey race car moments ago at its SEMA 2016 booth in Las Vegas, Nevada, as it sets its sights on worldwide racing competition.

Based on the highly successful Shelby GT350R-C, which won its class this year in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in its first full season of competition, the Mustang GT4 features a 5.2-liter V8 and a six-speed sequential paddle-shift transmission from Holinger replaces the traditional manual six-speed transmission.

The Mustang GT4 is built to FIA GT4 class specifications and is legal and ready to compete in any GT4 series in the world including the Grand Sport class of IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Pirelli World Challenge GTS and European GT4, to name a few.

The vehicle also features chassis mods from Multimatic Motorsports, including new shocks, lower rear control arms and anti-roll stabilizer bars. Various aerodynamic aids have been applied to the body to improve downforce, including a large rear wing, aggressive front splitter, additional hood venting and a new rear diffuser. Forgeline 18- by 11-inch wheels with racing slicks will help put the power to the pavement.

The interior includes a full FIA-compliant roll cage, and features motorsports engine control and an antilock-braking controller, along with a dash logger from Motec.

“The new Mustang is a global vehicle,” says Mark Rushbrook, motorsports engineering manager, Ford Performance. “Now, its growing fan base has a GT4 competition model to race and support around the globe.”

With this Mustang GT4 global race car, Ford will be taking on a diverse new group of competitors including that from Porsche, Aston Martin and even KTM in the GT4 European Series as well as Chevrolet, Nissan and Maserati in the Pirelli World Challenge.
